We recognise that the government’s scheme to increase open-cast mining for coal and renew outdated coal-fired power stations is a disaster for climate change, when clean, sustainable and renewable solutions should be supported and developed. Investment in renewable technology such as solar and wind would ensure energy security in the UK, provide affordable energy and provide jobs.
We want to stop the open cast mining proposal at Fairburn Ings by:
• Informing the local public about the campaign and encourage people to get involved.
• Getting coverage of the Fairburn Ings campaign on local and national media.
• Informing and lobbying local MPs and councillors.
• Opposing the planning application as it progresses through Leeds City Council planning committee.
• Networking with local groups in a campaign to oppose the opencast mining proposal.
